While the Texas Longhorns did lose an embarrassing game in overtime to the Kansas Jayhawks, no, head coach Charlie Strong has not been fired by Texas.

The Texas Longhorns suffered one of the most embarrassing losses in school history on Saturday by falling on the road in overtime to the Kansas Jayhawks, 24-21. Texas committed six turnovers and missed a field goal to lose in Lawrence to lowly Kansas.

Many have suspected that Texas head coach Charlie Strong has fallen out of the frying pan and into the fire after this horrendous road loss. While he may eventually be dismissed as the head coach of the Texas football team, no, he has not been fired after the Longhorns’ loss to Kansas on Saturday night.

This tough road loss by the Longhorns brings Strong’s Texas program to 5-6 on the season. The Longhorns have to beat the TCU Horned Frogs next week to reach bowl eligibility. Texas has never finished better than 7-6 under Strong since he took over the program in 2014.

The Longhorns have as storied of a football tradition as any major program in the country. When Texas is cooking, nobody can out recruit the Longhorns in the Power 5. There is just so much talent in-state in Texas and it doesn’t take an elite head coach for this program to gel.

Strong may have ran out of time or wasn’t the right guy for the job in the first place. Many Texas boosters are pushing for his dismissal, but for now, Strong remains the head football coach of Texas. With only one regular season game remaining, there is no reason for Texas to rush to fire Strong. Texas can get whomever it wants as a head coach in 2017.
