Florida’s radio announcer had an all-timer of a call on their final goal line stand against LSU that clinched the SEC East.

For the second straight year, the Florida Gators are going to the SEC Championship Game. And for the second straight year, they will be facing Alabama. However, the way they’ve played this season suggests they can put up a better fight.

While the SEC East is still very much the SEC Least, Florida has looked good this year. They’ve blown out teams like Georgia and South Carolina, and they lost to Tennessee when they were pulling off miracles every week. The Arkansas loss looks bad, but they bounced back from it pretty well, and against LSU, the Gators clinched their division with a dramatic goal-line stand.

The play itself was amazing, but the local radio call was even better:

Last year, when they lost Will Grier, the Gators capitulated. Even though they finished with a 7-1 conference record, they looked awful in games against Vanderbilt and Florida Atlantic. They got blown out against Florida State in the final game, leaving their confidence shot against a juggernaut in the Crimson Tide.

The game went exactly how everyone expected it to go, with Alabama winning 29-15, but the score was hardly indicative of how dominant the Tide were. They went on to lose to Michigan in the Citrus Bowl to finish the season on a three-game losing streak.

But perhaps nobody wanted to win the SEC East this year because they don’t want to face Alabama. If anything, the announcer sounded like he was about to cry because he knows the inevitable fate that awaits his team in the Championship Game.

But Florida wants to prove that they belong, and a win in Doak Campbell Stadium would go a long way towards building up their confidence for the Championship Game. Although, who are we kidding — Alabama’s still going to win by five touchdowns.
