Harry Kane scored two very late goals to give Tottenham a 3-2 win against West Ham at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham looked set to lose their first game of the season against West Ham, before a quick Harry Kane double turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead. The first was a simple tap, the second a penalty after Harvard Nordveit brought Heung-min Son down in the box.

Harry Winks equalized for Tottenham earlier in the first half as well. The 20-year-old midfielder poked in from close range after West Ham keeper Darren Randolph could only parry Vincent Janssen’s powerful shot.

The goal wasn’t without controversy either, as Janssen looked like he may have handled the ball before taking the shot that resulted in the equalizer. It won’t matter much to Winks, though, who sprinted to his manager to celebrate his first league goal for Spurs.

Winks is hoping to replicate the trajectory of players like Danny Rose and Harry Kane, who also came up through the Spurs youth system before establishing themselves as key players under Mauricio Pochettino.

West Ham will feel hard done by. The Hammers have played well so far in the match, stifling Spurs despite allowing them 70 percent of the possession in the first half. The energy required of West Ham to maintain their defensive intensity appears to be catching up with them in the second half, as Tottenham continue to increase the pressure.

Tottenham, who have struggled in recent weeks, need a win to keep pace with the rest of the top four. A win will leave them on 24 points, one behind Arsenal in fourth. On a day when Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool all drew, Spurs will be desperate to close the gap to their rivals.

West Ham are down in 17th place, a point clear of Hull in 18th. There’s no shame in dropping points away to Tottenham, but Slaven Bilic’s side need to start winning soon if they’re going to steer clear of an unwanted and unexpected relegation battle.
