The Maryland Terrapins joined with the rest of the Big Ten in solidarity with the Nebraska Cornhuskers to remember late punter Sam Foltz.

The tragic death of Nebraska Cornhuskers punter Sam Foltz has been one of the biggest stories hanging over the 2016 college football season. From the opening game when the Huskers lined up without a punter to the opposing Big Ten teams honoring the late punter in various ways, it’s been emotional in honoring him almost every week. Ahead of Week 12, the Maryland Terrapins will also pay tribute to Foltz.

As the Terps and Huskers are set to face off on Saturday, the memory of Sam Foltz remains alive. Maryland chose to join teams throughout the conference who have paid tribute to him simply with a No. 27 jersey with the punter’s name next to his Nebraska jersey.

Here’s a look at the simple, yet still touching tribute from the Terrapins:

Foltz was killed in a single-car crash in late July 2016, an accident that also took the life of Michigan State punter Mike Sadler. LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye was also a passenger in the car, but survived only needing stitches and suffering burns to his leg. The three special teams players were attending a kicking camp in Wisconsin at the time of the crash.

A conference like the Big Ten is known for their fierce rivalries and each school’s pride in their own football team. However, there are some things bigger than any trophy are personal pride and the remembering of Sam Foltz has brought that to life. Time and again, it’s been heart-warming to see the unification of the conference in standing with Nebraska in the wake of this tragedy. Whether it’s a jersey, helmet stickers, or something else, the punter’s memory lives on in the Big Ten on Saturday and surely beyond.
