The Texas Longhorns have reportedly decided to fire Charlie Strong, with an announcement coming on Monday.

The Texas Longhorns will reportedly be looking for a new head coach this offseason. Following yet another loss on Saturday afternoon, Longhorns brass has decided to fire Strong although nothing has been officially announced.

According to a report from Longhorns writers Brian Davis and Kirk Bohls, the decision to fire Strong has already been made and an announcement will come on Monday. Texas officials were supposed to meet about Strong future and everyone wants to make a decision before the TCU game this weekend.

Brett McMurphy from ESPN later confirmed the report.

It’s not surprising though. Strong was already on the hot seat even before the season started. The pitiful play from the Longhorns hasn’t helped things and Strong’s time in Austin appears to be over. Of course, with no official announcement or further reporting, it’s hard to know if or when this will happen.

Unfortunately with Strong, it has become a matter of when and not if he will be fired. Even if this report if premature and Strong isn’t fired on Monday, all signs point to that eventually happening before the end of the season. Texas is an elite program that can and should be competing for the College Football Playoff. Instead, they’ve been relegated to the outskirts of the Big 12 and are a joke when it comes to contention for the CFB Playoff.

The program has too rich of a history and too great a presence to not be consistently competing for a title. That’s what the fans want and it sounds like Charlie Strong won’t be the guy to eventually see that dream come true.
