A forgettable year for the team from the Windy City continues to get worse on a daily basis. Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler appears to be down for the count again.

There were some high expectations in some people’s minds when it came to the Chicago Bears this season. They are in a division that boasted 2015 playoff teams in the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers. But John Fox’s club showed some signs of progress a year ago.

Unfortunately, the hits keep on coming for a club that has won only two games this season. On Tuesday morning, both Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network got the same word on embattled quarterback Jay Cutler.

While the 11-year pro has played somewhat better since returning to the starting lineup on Halloween night, it’s been a rough showing for the strong-armed signal-caller. He’s hitting on only 59.1 percent of his passes for 1,059 yards in five contests. He has connected for four scores but been picked off five times. Cutler has been sacked 17 times and lost two of his six fumbles.

The Bears own a 2-8 record this season and have knocked off both the Vikings and Detroit Lions – teams tied for the NFC North lead at the moment. The club plays four of its final six games at home and is in prime position to play spoiler.

However, it now looks like they will be playing without Cutler for the unforeseeable future. With Brian Hoyer also sidelined, it appears that Matt Barkley will get the call this week when the team hosts Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans.

As for Cutler, there will be plenty of discussion when it comes to his future. And we’re not just talking about the upcoming weeks.
