Actor Matthew McConaughey showed support for Texas Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong.

Charlie Strong is likely on his way out of Texas soon, but the way he carries himself has consistently earned respect from his peers and the players he has had the opportunities to coach. After the Longhorns lost to Kansas on Saturday, Strong was at a loss for words and it was clear the writing was on the wall. With all the reports of Strong’s future with the program emerging, there’s been a lot of talk about how tough this is for him. Texas superfan Matthew McConaughey showed some support for his head coach.

As McConaughey was interviewed and asked about the future of Texas football, he had nothing but support for the current head coach. In an interview with FOX 7, he let his feelings be known about the vision of the team.

It takes a man with incredible character for everyone to rally around like that of Strong. While many feel it’s time for the program to go in a different direction, there is no denying just how much people respect Strong and the way he has been a leader for the young men on his football team.

McConaughey’s message echoes what a lot of people have been saying and that Texas needs to do what’s best for the young men on the team. That probably means going in a different direction, but no one is going to throw Strong under the bus. Certainly not with the way he has poured his heart into the team. It hasn’t worked out the way he wanted it to, but there’s no denying just how much effort he’s put in.
