Fort Wayne upset Indiana on Tuesday night. How might it shift the college basketball rankings?

Holy Mastodons!

On Tuesday night, Fort Wayne pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the college basketball season so far, knocking off the Indiana Hoosiers, 71-68. The Hoosiers had made a massive climb in the polls after their opening night overtime win over the Kansas Jayhawks, but they’ll likely take a tumble after stumbling against the Mastodons.

So, what will the top 10 look like this time next week?

  1. Kentucky Wildcats – The Wildcats sat atop the AP Poll at the beginning of this week and there’s little reason to think they’ll fall unless they suffer a fate similar to Indiana’s. Head coach John Calipari already has him team playing championship caliber defense in the season’s first month.
  2. Villanova Wildcats – The reigning national champions struggled a bit against UCF, but they still possess one of the most dangerous offenses in the country with five players who can knock down outside jumpers.
  3. North Carolina Tar Heels – The Tar Heels have six of their eight top scorers back from last season and they’re still waiting on Theo Pinson to get healthy.
  4. Kansas Jayhawks – Kansas stumbled in overtime against Indiana at the Armed Forces Classic, but the Jayhawks bounced back by knocking off Duke in the Champions Classic. Freshman phenom Josh Jackson appears to be coming into form.
  5. Duke Blue Devils – The preseason favorites still aren’t healthy, but it took a late game winner from Frank Mason to knock them off their perch. No worries, they picked up a win over Rhode Island to get back on track.
  6. Indiana Hoosiers – Everyone has off nights and it’s hard to drop the Hoosiers too far, but there are real concerns in Bloomington over whether or not the roster has enough individual playmakers to be a Final Four threat.
  7. Virginia Cavaliers – Virginia dismissed potential All-American Austin Nichols last Friday, but the Cavaliers have shown signs that their stifling defense and impressive guard play can still get the job done.
  8. Arizona Wildcats – The Wildcats haven’t played any tough competition since opening their season with a win over Michigan State. We’ll get a better idea of just how good they are when they face Gonzaga on December 3.
  9. Xavier Musketeers – Xavier struggled with Missouri at the Tire Pros Invitational, but picked up wins over Clemson and Northern Iowa to right the ship.
  10. Louisville Cardinals – The Cardinals rarely play a tough non-conference schedule, but they’ll face a real test in Purdue in just over a week’s time.
