The Navy Midshipmen will host the Temple Owls in the 2016 AAC Football Championship Game. When is the AAC Football Championship Game?

The Navy Midshipmen 9-2 (7-1) will host the Temple Owls 9-3 (7-1) in the 2016 AAC Football Championship Game. Kickoff from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland will be at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, Dec. 3. ABC will have the telecast.

Temple won the 2016 AAC East Division crown by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker with the South Florida Bulls. Both teams finished the season 7-1 in the AAC. Temple won the division because the Owls beat the Bulls, 46-30 back on October 21st.

This is the second straight season that Temple won the AAC East Division crown. The Owls lost in the inaugural AAC Championship Game to the Houston Cougars, 24-13. Houston would go on to be the Group of 5 representative in the 2015 New Year’s Six bowl, winning the Peach Bowl over the Florida State Seminoles.

This is the first division championship in Navy’s illustrious football history. Keep in mind that Navy was a football independent for 134 years before coming to The American in 2015. Navy won the AAC West outright at 9-2 (7-1) on the season.

The Midshipmen have won 15 straight home games, which is the longest active home winning streak in Division I football. Navy has won four straight games and has been a mainstay in the Top 25 for some time now.

However, Navy did not play Temple this season. The Owls have been the best team in the AAC East Division the last two seasons. These two teams last played in 2014 with the Midshipmen defeating the Owls in Philadelphia.

To reach a New Year’s Six bowl, the winner of the AAC Football Championship Game will have to hope that the undefeated Western Michigan Broncos slip up in the MAC Football Championship Game. If Western Michigan beats the Ohio Bobcats, they will end up being the team that reaches the Cotton Bowl.
