Texas football is not the program that it once was and it’s time for Tom Herman to make the program great again and here are five reasons he’ll do just that.

The Tom Herman era is set to begin at Texas. He has been a target for the Texas Longhorns for quite some time and now he will get his opportunity to show that he can turn them back into a powerhouse.

Texas chose to let Charlie Strong ride out the season, but they officially fired him on Saturday. Then reports began to quickly surface and they released an official announcement about their hiring of Herman who led Houston to a 22-4 record in two years with the Cougars.

Herman gets his dream job and here are five ways he can make the Big 12 program great again and it all starts at the most important position where he has a knack for developing quarterbacks.

5. Developing quarterbacks

If there’s one thing Tom Herman has really done to make him a top coaching candidate, it’s his ability to coach quarterbacks. Throughout his tenure at Houston, Herman has done an excellent job coaching his guys up.

He turned Greg Ward into a great passing option and his offensive attack was perfect. At Texas, he’ll land even better prospects and with Shane Buechele still on the roster, he will have a good one in place to work with. Transfers and changes could always happen, especially with rumors of Kyle Allen coming, but he’s going to have an endless talent pipeline.

Prior to his time at Houston, Herman won the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach after turning J.T. Barrett into a Heisman candidate and Cardale Jones into a national champion.
