The New England Patriots usually have their way with the New York Jets. Would things be any different in their first meeting of 2016?

The so-called AFC East rivalry between the New England Patriots and New York Jets has not been much of one lately.

Bill Belichick has made the Green and White pay ever since the Mark Sanchez-led Jets upset the Pats in Foxborough in the 2010 AFC Divisional Playoffs. New England has won eight of the 10 meetings since then. New York’s two victories came in 2013 and ’15 – both at MetLife Stadium and each in overtime.

So can Todd Bowles’ 3-7 squad pull off the upset? They have to deal with a very hot quarterback and are led by one who has not been sharp at all this year. Could this potentially be Ryan Fitzpatrick’s finest hour in 2016?

Actually, he’ll need about three hours. And as for New England’s veteran signal-caller…

Highlights

Highlights will be posted live as they happen

Three Stars

1. Tom Brady

These are the kind of numbers that most just marvel at. In six games this season, Brady is hitting on 70.4 percent of his passes. He’s connected for 16 scores and been picked off only once. He has been sacked 11 times and perhaps the Jets can get some pressure on him. Speaking of the other team, the Patriots quarterback has faced New York 30 times (including playoffs). He’s 22-7 as a starter and has thrown more than three times as many touchdown passes (43) as interceptions (14).

2. Matt Forte

If the Jets are going to keep Brady and that offense on the field, New York’s offensive line and the team’s leading rusher must do their part. The veteran runner has totaled 189 carries for 732 yards and seven scores. Forte is fourth on the team with 23 receptions, good for 179 yards and one score. In five of his 10 appearances this season he’s totaled 20-plus carries. The Jets will need him to make that six out of 11 instances if they are to knock off these Patriots.

3. Danny Amendola

He’s been a Danny of all trades this year and could see more passes this way on Sunday whether tight end Rob Gronkowski plays or not. Amendola is just sixth on the team with 19 receptions but is tied for the club lead with four scoring receptions. He’s also the team leader in punt return yardage (107) and has taken back four kickoffs for 105 yards. He will keep the New York Jets’ troubled secondary on its toes.

Odds

The first-place New England Patriots have their share of injury issues. And that’s the big season that Bill Belichick’s team opened as a 9-point favorite and the line has dipped to 7.5 points. The OVER/UNDER has also slipped from 47 to 46 points.

Next Week

The Patriots return to Foxborough to battle the Los Angeles Rams. The Jets are back home for a second straight week and welcome the 5-6 Indianapolis Colts, who fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers at home on Thanksgiving night. The teams will clash on a Monday night at MetLife Stadium.
