Richard Sherman believes karma is catching up with Cam Newton for celebrating with the Seahawks ’12’ flag last year.

What a difference a year makes. This time last year, the Carolina Panthers were in pursuit of a perfect season. When you fast-forward to the here and now, it appears that Cam Newton and company will miss the postseason entirely. After losing in the Super Bowl to the Denver Broncos, many believed Carolina would only get better, but that simply hasn’t been the case.

The Panthers currently find themselves sitting dead last in the NFC South with a record of 4-7. They are in a must-win situation this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, whose star cornerback Richard Sherman believes a lot of Carolina’s misfortune has to do with how Newton handled the win over Seattle in the divisional round of the playoffs a season.

If you don’t recall, Newton ran around Band of America Stadium giving fans high-fives, but when a Seahawks dangled a ’12’ flag, Newton proceeded to crumble it up and toss it.

Sherman was asked if Newton crossed the line.

"“Yeah, he probably did,” Sherman said. “I guess karma gets you. It doesn’t look like you’re going to be in the playoffs this year.”"

Last year, these two NFC teams battled twice and the Panthers won both times. However, with the way things are going this year, it’ll be a bit of a surprise if Carolina comes away victorious this time around. At the same time, despite Carolina’s record, they’ve lost a handful of close games that could’ve easily gone their way, so there’s going to be no overlooking them from Sherman and company this weekend.

After these comments, it’ll be interesting to see if Newton decides to go after Sherman more than normal. Kickoff is set for 8:30 Eastern time Sunday night from Seattle.
