The Heisman Trophy goes to the most outstanding player in college football. Here’s a list of the 2016 Heisman Finalists.

After an exciting 2016 season, some of the top individual performers have been rewarded. Whenever individual greatness in college football is discussed, obviously the Heisman Trophy comes up. The Heisman goes to the most outstanding player in college football. Past winners include Charles Woodson, Jameis Winston, Cam Newton, Robert Griffin III, Marcus Mariota, Tim Tebow and Roger Staubach.

Since there were so many great performances during the 2016 college football season, inevitably some people got snubbed. That’s just a testament to how deep the field is and how great the season was. Even being named a finalist will put the player in a position to be remembered as one of the best players in one of the best college football seasons in recent memory.

The finalists are announced on ESPN at 6:00 p.m. ET and Lamar Jackson from Louisville, Deshaun Watson from Clemson and Dede Westbrook from Oklahoma are expected to be among the 2016 Heisman Trophy finalists.

A short time ago on ESPN, we got a look at who will be taking the trip to New York this season.

Jackson is considered by many to be the favorite after an impressive season for the Cardinals. He finished the season with just under 5,000 total yards with 3,390 passing yards and 1,538 rushing yards. Jackson is a huge part of Louisville’s offense, accounting for 51 touchdowns (30 passing and 21 rushing).

If Jackson doesn’t win the Heisman, it could go to Watson who should be a finalist for a second consecutive season after losing to Derrick Henry last year.

If Westbrook is named a finalist, it will be a rare feat for receiver considering quarterbacks and running backs receive the bulk of the Heisman attention. He’s been a huge part of the Sooners’ prolific offense, and arguably the best player in the Big 12. Receivers are rarely Heisman finalists, so this is quite the accomplishment for him.
