The Minnesota Vikings will be getting head coach Mike Zimmer back on the sidelines for Week 14.

Last week, the Minnesota Vikings got a bit of a scare. Head coach Mike Zimmer required emergency eye surgery, forcing him to miss Thursday’s defeat to the Dallas Cowboys. They will be getting him back for Week 14, as he has resumed his head coaching duties.

On Thursday, the Vikings lost to the Cowboys. It was a hard fought battle, featuring a very controversial ending. During a potential game-tying two point conversion, the Cowboys weren’t flagged for an obvious penalty. Though Minnesota did quite well against Dallas, it wasn’t enough.

Since winning their first five games of the 2016 NFL season, the Vikings have lost six of their past seven games. A win over the Arizona Cardinals is the only thing keeping them in the NFC North race. While they’re still two games back of the Detroit Lions, they aren’t quite out of the playoff picture yet.

Getting Zimmer back should help them focus. While the Vikings have had a lot of issues this season, coaching isn’t one of them. Their offensive line has been dreadful, largely due to a ton of injuries, but even still many of Minnesota’s losses have been close contests. If they can fix their offensive line and improve their depth this offseason, the Vikings could win the NFC North in 2017.

Zimmer has done an especially good job with quarterback Sam Bradford. He hasn’t been outstanding, but he’s constantly put the Vikings in a decent position to win. Considering Bradford has no protection, the former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback has been outstanding. Minnesota will face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14. This game is about as close to a must-win as possible. With a loss, the Vikings’ slim playoff hopes might disappear.
