There are way too many bowl games in college football and these specific games have to go.

There isn’t a greater time of the year than bowl season in college football. With matchups that fans dream about and the improbable sense of joy that comes with seeing underdogs take on heavyweights, bowl season is a gift to all sports fans.

However, that doesn’t mean that every bowl game is a great game. With 40 bowls and 80 teams, a majority of the teams in college football get to a bowl game each season. That means that the quality of games isn’t the best. Teams with losing records get in because their simply aren’t enough 6-6 records. If the NCAA wanted to make things more competitive, they would eliminate some games. Here are five they could get rid of to start things off.

5. Heart of Dallas Bowl

The Heart of Dallas Bowl is a recent addition to the bowl lineup. It is played in the Cotton Bowl, which packed up and moved shop to AT&T Stadium. It’s gone through sponsors and has had trouble keeping consistent bowl tie-ins.

The problem with this bowl is that there is just too much change and not enough consistency early on to lead to making it worthwhile. It started off as a Big Ten vs. Big 12 but now has devolved into Pac-12 vs. Conference USA and there isn’t even a Pac-12 team in it this season.

While everyone wants to see a small school take on a big school, this bowl just isn’t worth the draw and doesn’t exactly feature marquee battles worthy of bowl season. This year, the Pac-12 isn’t even in the bowl and it will instead be Army vs. North Texas. Both schools fought hard to earn their spot, but this bowl doesn’t seem like the locale.
