The redshirt junior plans on graduating early in order to be eligible to play in 2017.

After bursting onto the college football scene as a freshman in 2014, Anu Solomon’s time in Tuscon has come to a close.

The former three-star dual-threat quarterback committed to Arizona University back in 2012 as a junior in high school.

In his redshirt freshman season, Solomon became the first freshman to start the season opener in school history. Fully entrenched as Arizona’s quarterback of the future, Solomon led the Wildcats to a 10-2 record and a berth in the Pac-12 title game. Despite losing to the eventual National Championship runner-up Oregon Ducks, Arizona was placed in the 2014 Vizio Fiesta Bowl against the Boise State Broncos, giving Solomon a national stage to showcase the future of Pac-12 football.

The 2014 season seemed to be one to build on for Solomon, as he led all FBS freshman quarterbacks with 3,793 passing yards to go along with 28 touchdowns in the air and two more on the ground.

Instead, Solomon’s Pac-12 Honorable Mention season proved to be the peak of his career in Tuscon. After entering the 2015 season as the number 22 ranked team in the country, the Wildcats fell flat on their faces to end the season, losing four of their last five games to finish the regular season with a pedestrian 6-6 record.

Solomon wasn’t completely at fault for his team’s struggles during his sophomore season, but he certainly regressed in his performance, throwing for only 2,667 yards and 20 touchdowns.

As a redshirt junior, Solomon missed more than half of the 2016 season with knee and foot injuries and was ultimately supplanted by sophomore Brandon Dawkins as the starting quarterback.

Potential landing spots for Solomon will likely remain unclear until after National Signing Day, but the Hawaii native who played his high school football in Nevada could look to stay out on the west coast.
