The Denver Broncos will be getting a full evaluation of their future at QB this weekend.

With speculation earlier this week that Denver Broncos rookie QB Paxton Lynch would start Sunday, it has been announced that Trevor Siemian will get the call on New Year’s Day.

However, for fans looking for a Paxton Lynch showcase in the season finale, they will be getting their wish. Denver is planning to start Siemian against Oakland and then switch to Lynch later on. It’s a win-win for everybody, but a necessary evaluation for general manager John Elway. Due to a Christmas night loss to Kansas City, Denver has been eliminated from playoff contention a year after winning it all. Now, the Broncos will try to figure out where their future lies ahead of 2017.

Mike Klis from 9News reported the quarterback situation for the Broncos in Week 17 on Twitter.

Siemian has not been nearly as effective since returning in Week 14. Lynch has made three starts in replace of Siemian this season, and he has won two of those games. Many will be anxious to watch Lynch Sunday as he has been proclaimed to be the future of this organization. One thing is for sure, both of these quarterbacks will need to put their best foot forward this weekend. It will be a showcase to stay with this team down the line. The Broncos will be hosting the current No. 2 seed in Oakland, who will be attempting to hold this spot away from Kansas City.

For Denver, this is a wise approach to take heading into Week 17. The Broncos have seen a body of work from Siemian, so allowing another look at Lynch makes sense. Rumors have surfaced about Tony Romo potentially joining Denver in the offseason, but who knows how likely that is. Either way, Elway needs to find an answer to the position he once called his own in the Mile High City.
