New trailer re-reveals gameplay for Rime

We’ve been waiting a few years to see something new on Rime, but suddenly we have new gameplay and word that it’s coming to the Nintendo Switch.

In the new gameplay trailer for Rime released by IGN, the game looks like more of the same. The game was first revealed in 2013 during Gamescom. Up until today, we haven’t seen much about it.

What we do know is the game has gone through a lot in its development. In March 2016, it was revealed that Tequila Works acquired the rights to Rime from Sony. Shortly after, Grey Box and Six Foot joined the project as publishers.

It’s a shame since this is a game we were very interested in since its reveal. Being pegged as part-Zelda, part-The Last Guardian, you can immediately see the influence based on the gameplay.

At first, the game instantly reminded us of The Wind Waker because of the vibrant colors (the sea and the sky), and the sense of exploration. The aesthetics are great.

In the new trailer, we also see the influence from The Last Guardian. The boy’s voice sounds similar to that of the main protagonist from The Last Guardian. We can also draw comparisons to Ico and Okami based on other elements of gameplay.

The puzzles and the way you interact with the environment are all mechanics that are taken from these previous games. It looks like a ton of fun, to say the least.

However, we do have one gripe with the new trailer. It seems like the graphics have been downscaled. Don’t get us wrong, though. The game still looks visually stunning, but we can’t help but feel like it doesn’t look as good as it once did.

We’re still intrigued by it. Rime was first announced as a PlayStation 4 exclusive, but it’s now coming to the Xbox One and the upcoming Nintendo Switch, which is great news.

Rime is set to release in May of 2017.
