Jonathan Isaac

SF/PF, Florida St.

The Phoenix Suns attempted to shore up their frontcourt last year by picking up a pair of versatile big men in the lottery. Dragan Bender has the potential to be a floor stretching big who can play either position in the frontcourt. His passing and ability to handle the ball is unique for his size. Marquese Chriss was the risky pick, an athletic power forward that many hope will be capable of eventually making a big jump.

Florida State’s Jonathan Isaac can help the Suns round out their frontcourt concerns. A 6-foot-11 combo forward, Isaac has delivered some impressive production for the Seminoles this season. The freshman is averaging 19.5 points and 11.7 rebounds per 40 minutes while shooting 36.6 percent from behind the 3-point line. Isaac hasn’t been tasked with carrying the Florida State offense like someone like Fultz has had to do at Washington. Instead, he’s been able to grow his game while older players like Dwayne Bacon dominate the ball.

The 19-year old would give Phoenix — or any team really — plenty of flexibility given his size. As a prospect that projects to play either forward spot, he could be used alongside Chriss and Bender to roll out a long, lengthy lineup or he could slide down into the power forward spot where he won’t sacrifice much in terms of size and should create some offensive mismatches.
