NFL officially suspends Cowboys’ Randy Gregory for one year
After having just returned to the lineup for the Dallas Cowboys, the NFL has finally suspended the linebacker for at least a year.
It appears that the Randy Gregory saga in Dallas is coming to yet another halt. After Gregory had already missed the first 14 games of the season for failing two tests in the offseason, he has failed yet another test.
Adam Schefter broke news on Twitter on Thursday, that the league has suspended Gregory for at least a year for once again violating their substance abuse program. This would mark at least the third test that he has failed since the offseason.
At this point, Gregory will now not suit for the Cowboys in the postseason let alone next season either. There’s no guarantee either about when he will return to the field as he has to prove that he has gotten himself cleaned up and that he doesn’t fail anymore tests either.
The Cowboys knew the risk when they selected Gregory in the 2015 draft and while they were excited to get him back on the field and hope that he could become a contributor for them, he just hasn’t been able to do that with the suspensions. Coming out of Nebraska, Gregory was one of the most hyped up pass rushers available in the draft. Then his substance issues came into the light and he slipped all the way to the Cowboys at the bottom of the second round.
There have been several other players that have faced lengthy suspensions for failing the substance abuse policy and Gregory is the latest to do so. At three strikes, he is now gone for a year and can’t afford to slip up anymore if he wants to try and salvage his career.
