Curtis Oliver of James Madison grabbed one of the lucky interceptions you’ll ever see in the FCS Championship.

So far, everything is going right for James Madison University. They’re currently up 28-7 over Youngstown State as they look to win their second national title in football.

During the game, defensive back Curtis Oliver made an incredibly lucky interception. Everything is coming up JMU right now, as the pass went off the foot of Youngstown’s receiver and fell into the hands of Oliver.

Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. Of course, it’s even better to be a bit of both, which is what happens on this play. Sure, Oliver gets a gift because the ball didn’t bounce off the field, but rather, off the receiver’s foot. This puts the ball in the air long enough for him to chase it down. But credit Oliver for being in a good position to make a play and for making the catch. It’s quite easy to get big eyes and drop such an easy interception. Especially in a championship. Credit Oliver for having the poise required to make the catch.

It’s been one of those games for Youngstown. Very little has gone right for them. Outside of a tipped punt, which gave them great field position and led to their first touchdown, Youngstown hasn’t done much on offense. Their defense has held JMU in check for the most part, but the Dukes have gotten good field position a few too many times for the Penguins to stop them.

JMU is looking to win their first championship since winning the Division I-AA national title back in 2004. Led by Khalid Abdullah in the backfield and Oliver in the secondary, the Dukes are in a great position to become the national champions.
