Just over a week into ACC play, the conference standings are a congested jumble of teams all trying to get a foothold.

Every ACC team has at least one conference win on the ledger, and all fifteen teams are at or above .500 overall. In a year where many pundits think the ACC could match or break the Big East’s record for teams in the NCAA Tournament, it has lived up to the hype thus far. Despite all of the seemingly contradictory results and the mess they’ve created, here is where we’ll tell you how the ACC fared in the past week and how the teams’ performances from the week stack up.

Wake Forest demon deacons

Last week: 1-3
Last rank: N/A

The Demon Deacons have gotten off to a rough start in ACC play and sit alone in dead last in the conference standings. They’ve played some tough teams with losses to Florida State, Clemson, and Virginia, but managed their only win over fellow bottom-feeder Boston College. They had a good shot to take down Clemson at home as well, but watched a ten point lead crumble in the closing minutes. As we progress in the season, that game could be looked back at as a turning point in the Deacs’ season. After overachieving in their nonconference slate, they came into the ACC with some hope. John Collins (20 points, 7 rebounds) and his team thoroughly dominated Clemson for 35 minutes before ceding a 15-0 run to end the game and lost by five. Their next game is on Wednesday, when they play host to #11 North Carolina before getting an entire week off, so they’re going to have to play really well to get their season back on the up and up.

Boston College Eagles

Last week: 1-2
Last rank: N/A

Another team that played their non conference games better than expected, the Eagles started off ACC play with a resounding 15-point win at home over a struggling Syracuse team. Their winning ways ended there as they proceeded to drop back to back games to Wake Forest and Duke. The double-digit loss to Wake Forest hurts, but losing to Duke, especially by only nine points, is not the worst thing in the world. Connar Tava didn’t appear too pleased after another attempted Grayson Allen trip:

Boston College will have a chance to curb their struggles this week as they play two unranked teams. First they host an NC State team coming off a blowout loss to cross-state rival North Carolina, then they go up to the Carrier Dome to try to take down Syracuse for the second time this season.
