3 things we want to see at the Nintendo Switch live presentation
The Nintendo Switch live presentation is on Thursday, January 12. Here’s what we hope is shown.
The Nintendo Switch was announced late in 2016 after years of speculation. Formally known as the Nintendo NX, we had a pretty good idea of what the console was going to be thanks to a number of rumors and mock-ups.
Once it was officially revealed, we were very excited because of its potential. It’s an extremely interesting concept, something that hasn’t been done before. Nintendo is the king of innovation in the gaming industry, and they continue to prove this time and time again.
Other than what it looks like and how it’ll be played, we know very little about the Switch. Fortunately, all of our questions will (hopefully) be answered during the live presentation on Thursday.
There are a few things we want to see. I’m sure we all want an official release date, an official price, the specs and so on. We won’t be talking about those since we can almost guarantee that we’ll be hearing about all of those aspects, considering that March is right around the corner.
We want to focus on some things that will make the Switch great. Here are three things we hope are announced and are, in our minds, essential to its success (especially at launch).
3. A good set of games at launch
If there’s one thing that Nintendo hasn’t done very well with the Wii U, it’s the scarce game lineup. When you think about its lifespan, the most memorable year was 2014. In that year alone, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U were released.
There were other gems like Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Hyrule Warriors, and indie games like Shovel Knight and Child of Light. That’s an amazing lineup of games. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been another year like this for the Wii U.
The only thing that was keeping this console alive was the upcoming new Legend of Zelda game, Breath of the Wild. But that was pushed back, and now it’s releasing on the Switch along with the Wii U.
We’ll talk more about that in a few, but other than Zelda, the Switch needs more launch titles. It’s a good thing that they’re partnering with many third party developers. This is a sign that there should be more games on the console, which will ultimately make it a huge success.
Nintendo also needs to take advantage of their first party support and exclusivity. The company has so many exclusive IPs that can’t be played on any other console. This is what sets it apart in the console war, and it’s unfortunate that we don’t get to play many of these games.
On a side note, some games we would love to see launch alongside the Switch are Skyrim Remastered and the Mario Kart 8 port.
