Siena head coach left hanging after altercation (Video)
Players from Siena and Rider got into a fight after a hard foul during their game, so Siena’s coach was left doing invisible handshakes after the buzzer
It’s never pretty when two college basketball teams end up in a heated altercation. However, “not pretty” fails to describe what went down between the Siena Saints and Rider Broncs on Tuesday night. The debacle began when a Siena player went up for a dunk and was somewhat undercut and sent to the floor hard on his way down. As a result, the teams started getting into it.
However, the teams getting into it was just the beginning of the ordeal. As things escalated, more players poured in and got involved until it was the epitome of a bench-clearing brawl. In fact, the benches cleared so much so that Siena head coach Jimmy Patsos and Rider head coach Kevin Baggett actually had to be separated from one another after they got into it on the floor.
While this was an ugly scene, though, it resulted in one of the pinnacles of college basketball midway through the season. Patsos, clearly still fuming while also perfectly snarky, walked across the sidelines to shake hands after the final buzzer. However, Baggett and his team were headed to the locker room already.
So what else could the Siena coach do but shake invisible hands down the non-existent line of opposing players? In terms of sarcastic gestures, it was top-notch:
There could be a buzzer-beater in the National Championship Game for the second year in a row and I’m not sure I’d love it more than this.

It stands to reason that Patsos and Siena would be in the better mood after considering the Saints picked up the 78-68 victory. However, let’s hope the head coach’s moment of comedic brilliance doesn’t necessitate a nasty brawl beforehand.
