CBS’s Code Black is coming toward the end of its second season. Is the medical drama airing a new episode on Wednesday, January 18?

Fans of CBS‘s Code Black will need to make other plans this week. The medical drama is not airing this Wednesday, January 18 in order to make way for the network’s broadcast of the People’s Choice Awards.

It’s a bit of a downer, too, because last week’s episode of Code Black was one of the best in the entire second season. “Unfinished Business” centered on Dr. Rollie Guthrie (William Allen Young), who struggled with having to start a new position as the chaplain at Angels Memorial Hospital after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. If you missed the episode, you can read our recap and review of it here.

Season 2 of the series is almost over regardless. CBS ordered just 16 episodes of the sophomore cycle, and “Unfinished Business” was Episode 13. That means there are only three more episodes left of the reworked show that saw Rob Lowe (The West Wing, Parks & Recreation) come aboard as Col. Ethan Willis.

Lowe has been an impressive addition to the series that was already well-stocked with Marcia Gay Harden (God of Carnage), Benjamin Hollingsworth (Suits), Harry Ford (Skiptracers), Melanie Chandra (The Brink), Jillian Murray (Awkward), Boris Kodjoe (Undercovers), Young and Luis Guzman (every show ever made, seemingly).

Hopefully all that talent will get Code Black a season 3, but at least for this week it’s getting a break.

Though Code Black is taking this Wednesday off, it will be back to finish out the remainder of its second season before the end of the month. Its next new episode, “Vertigo,” airs on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 10/9c on CBS.
