To give the Philadelphia 76ers their third consecutive win, Robert Covington came through in the clutch for a game-winning three-pointer.

The Philadelphia 76ers may still be rebuilding and out of the playoff picture, but they have become fun to watch. They have a polarizing force in Joel Embiid, who nearly became an All-Star starter for February’s game. Young pieces like Dario Saric and Ben Simmons, the latter of which has yet to play due to injury, also gives this team hope.

Well, Friday night’s game will likely give the Sixers, and their fans, even more hope for what’s to come. They fought back in the closing minutes against the Portland Trail Blazers and won the game, 93-92. However, it would come in grand fashion.

Point guard TJ McConnell would come down the court with the ball with around 10 seconds remaining. He took it to the three-point line and passed it across to Robert Covington, who had Evan Turner directly in his face and was a good few steps behind the arc. However, Covington still pulled up and drained the contested three-point shot with just seconds remaining to give the 76ers the lead. They then stopped an attempted layup from Mason Plumlee to close the game.

This all came without Embiid as well, who had left the game due to a precautionary issue with his knee. He had suffered a contusion earlier in the evening, which saw him return to the locker room on multiple occasions.

After years of losing, the 76ers are gaining momentum and look like they have a bright future. Once they get Embiid, Simmons, and others together on the same court, then tickets for games at the Wells Fargo Center may become must-have.
