Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines get richer with a strong 2017 recruiting class on National Signing Day

Jim Harbaugh has proven to be many things for the Michigan Wolverines. The head coach is eccentric, passionate and polarizing to say the least. However, Harbaugh has also shown that he’s a highly capable recruiter and his 2017 recruiting class reflects that once again. Despite losing a great deal of talent to the NFL draft, the Wolverines are simply replenishing the talent pool in Ann Arbor.

As far as players already signed coming into National Signing Day, Michigan’s 2017 class is headlined by the No. 1 receiver in the country, Donovan Peoples-Jones. The 6-2 wideout has blazing speed and blinding playmaking abilities on the outside. Additionally, he’s an exceptionally versatile talent that could theoretically be used as a Swiss-Army knife in the mold of Jabrill Peppers—though primarily playing on the opposite side of the ball.

Peoples-Jones will be a great weapon for Michigan’s top quarterback recruit, Dylan McCaffrey. The brother of Stanford standout and 2015 Heisman Trophy finalist Christian McCaffrey, the signal-caller has the tools as a passer and athlete to potentially start right away. However, the defense shouldn’t be left out as the likes of Luiji Vilain and Drew Singleton should come in and make a massive impact on that side of the ball.

Despite the obvious talent already bound for Ann Arbor, the Wolverines didn’t want to stop there on National Signing Day. Michigan entered Wednesday as strong candidates to sign Aubrey Solomon, the No. 2 defensive tackle prospect in the country. Other top-150 recruits in Willie Gay and Nico Collins were among the hopeful signings for Harbaugh and the Wolverines.

Though Michigan is losing player like Peppers, Taco Charlton, and weapons galore on both sides of the ball, this type of recruiting class in 2017 joining a strong 2016 group should have this Wolverines team competing for a National Championship right away.
