Devonta Freeman would continue his hot start at Super Bowl 51 with the first scoring play of the night.

Devonta Freeman has been red hot to open Super Bowl 51. He had a 37-yard run on the Atlanta Falcons first play from scrimmage, which took them into midfield. However, they could not capitalize on the big play. That had been a story of the first few drives of the game on Sunday night.

However, to open the second quarter, Freeman broke out with a few more big plays, showing off his slick cuts around the New England Patriots defenders. He would end up going around the left side of the defense for a quick rush and the first score of the game. This put the Falcons up, 7-0.

A great sign for the Falcons here, as this has mostly been a defensive affair between two of the top offenses in the NFL. It’s been mostly Freeman, even though Matt Ryan has 54 yards on a perfect four for four passing by the time this scoring drive ended. Julio Jones also had two catches for 42 yards to help push them down the field.

The Falcons have looked sharp early on against the Patriots, but Super Bowl 51 is far from over. There will be more scoring to come and plays that will define this game. For Atlanta to close this out, they’ll need Ryan to show why he won the 2016 NFL MVP and Devonta Freeman to continue his potential Super Bowl MVP performance.
