Paul Pierce made his last playing appearance at the TD Garden on Sunday and received a standing ovation.

Despite bouncing around with a few teams over the past handful of years, Paul Pierce will be known as a Boston Celtic. He was their franchise player from 1998-2013, making two NBA Finals appearances and winning it all in 2008.

In 2017, Pierce is in his final year in the NBA. This comes after being moved to the Brooklyn Nets in 2013, then going to the Washington Wizards for one season, and now the Los Angeles Clippers. He’s been with them since the 2015-16 campaign.

Pierce has already announced that 2016-17 will be his last season, so every city and venue he goes to will be for one last go-around. The most significant one of them all would be at TD Garden, the home of the Celtics where he played for the majority of his career. It would be an emotional arrival for the Truth, as he received a standing ovation from the fans during the player introductions on Sunday afternoon.

A very emotional moment here for Pierce, as he grew up as a player in front of these Celtic fans. He provided them with unforgettable moments throughout his 15 seasons in Boston, ones they will never forget. It makes him go down as one of the most iconic players in franchise history.

Before Pierce rides off into the sunset, he’ll go for a championship with the Clippers. He’s had a limited role for them, only playing 12 games heading into February 5. This comes with averaging just 3.8 points per game while Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan lead the way. Pierce will be along for the ride as a veteran leader for the team.

Paul Pierce will probably be back at the TD Garden after his career ends — likely for a jersey retirement ceremony. He’ll always be highly regarded in franchise history for what he brought to the organization in the opening decade of the millennium.
