The miracle catch by Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman will be prominently featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated

This past Sunday the world was treated to what many have been calling the greatest Super Bowl of all time, and you can see where fans could feature that argument. Coming back from 25 points down in the second half, the New England Patriots, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick were able to capture their fifth Super Bowl title, defeating the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in the first overtime game in the event’s illustrious history.

With all the excitement of the second half on Sunday as the Patriots charged all the way back from the dead, there were many options for the esteemed cover of Sports Illustrated following Super Bowl 51. When it came down to it, though, the cover of Sports Illustrated will feature maybe the one image that people will remember most from the incredible Super Bowl.

This week’s edition of Sports Illustrated will of course feature the image of Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman making not only the best catch in the history of the Super Bowl, but one of the greatest catches in the history of the great game of football.

Sure, you could have used anything surrounding Tom Brady or Patriots running back James White scoring the first-ever Super Bowl overtime touchdown –his third of the game overall– to complete the miracle comeback. But in reality, the image of Edelman somehow not letting the ball hit the ground in the fourth quarter perfectly defines the incredible feat that the Patriots pulled off on Sunday night in Houston. New England was not letting this one get away from them, no matter what sort of miracles they had to pull off.

The newest edition of Sports Illustrated will feature an extensive look at everything that took place on Sunday night at Super Bowl 51 from Greg Bishop, including exploring Tom Brady’s place in history following the addition of his fifth Super Bowl ring, the most ever for a quarterback.

You will be able to pick up this edition of Sports Illustrated featuring the historical catch by Edelman on Thursday, February 9..
