Honestly when Quincy Acy signed with the D-League Texas Legends it didn’t feel like he would be outside of the NBA for that long. As a big man who shot 38.8 and 46.7 percent on 3-pointers in his last two NBA seasons, Acy felt like the perfect veteran big man for quite a few young teams. Sure enough, the Brooklyn Nets decided that he was worth a roster spot and after two ten-day deals in January, Brooklyn signed Acy for two seasons earlier this week.

As it turned out though, the best story to come from this wasn’t Acy returning to the NBA. Instead it is about Acy the teammate. According to Sam Amick of USA Today, Acy made sure to give back to the Legends for helping him earn his opportunity.

While that doesn’t seem like a lot for professional basketball players, Legends coach Bob MacKinnon put it in perspective.

As someone who follows the NBA closely from a personality perspective this wasn’t that surprising. Acy genuinely seems like a great guy on social media and players around the league love him. I mean just look at what happened almost immediately after the game where Acy sprained his ankle.

It may seem trivial but players normally don’t take to Twitter so shortly after games to check on other guys. And from all indications the respect for Acy isn’t rare. After the story came out Dallas Mavericks reporter Tim MacMahon sent this Tweet.

A lot of Acy’s generosity stems from his understanding his place in the league, something Scott Van Pelt talked about on Sportscenter.

Thankfully the deed got noticed, even if that wasn’t Acy’s intentions. Because players like Quincy Acy deserve more publicity. Because everyone needs something to feel good about. And day after day Quincy Acy tries to give that. Hopefully he sticks in the NBA long enough to keep getting noticed this time.
