NFL roundup: Julius Thomas traded to the Miami Dolphins
By Brad Weiss
Some big NFL news on Monday, as the Jacksonville Jaguars traded their tight end to the Miami Dolphins for a seventh-round draft pick.
When the Jacksonville Jaguars acquired Julius Thomas to be their tight end, they were hoping to get the player they saw dominate on the field for the Denver Broncos. In exchange for Thomas, the Jaguars will receive a seventh-round selection in this April’s NFL Draft. Thomas appeared in only nine games for the Jags in 2016, catching 30 balls for 281 yards and four touchdowns.
In related news, the Miami Dolphins may be sending a player to the Jaguars in a completely separate deal. Offensive tackle Branden Albert met with the Jaguars on Monday, and if they can complete a deal that increases his money, the Jags could be adding a quality player to their offensive line. Albert had a rough season in 2016, and a change in scenery could be just what he needs to get back on the right track.
Michael Floyd earned a Super Bowl ring as a member of the New England Patriots this month, and now he will be serving time in jail. Floyd is set to begin his 24-day sentence for his second extreme DUI, which is only part of his sentence. The wide receiver’s total sentence was 120 days, which means he will have to spend 96 days at home detention. Once considered a rising star in the NFL, Floyd was released by the Cardinals this season and was a healthy scratch for the Pats in both the AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl.
Staying with the legal issues surrounding big name players in the NFL, the Darrelle Revis saga took another turn on Monday. Revis was released on a non-monetary bond, and will now have to wait until his next court date, which is scheduled for Thursday. Revis has been charged with four felonies and one misdemeanor, and his future with the New York Jets is certainly in doubt. Revis, who was once the best cornerback in the NFL, had a terrible 2016 season and is no longer considered an elite player at this point.

Victor Cruz, a fan favorite during his time with the New York Giants, was released by the team last week. On Monday, Cruz made a visit to the Carolina Panthers, who just may be interested in the veteran’s services for the 2017 NFL season. Cruz is going to be sought after by plenty of teams, as he showed this past season that he is still a very capable wide receiver after battling back from injuries the past few seasons.
