The Minnesota Vikings may go into the 2017 NFL season without their star running back, as his contract may be too much money.

For years, Adrian Peterson has been the face of the Minnesota Vikings as one of the best running backs in the NFL. Peterson has put together a Hall of Fame career during his time in Minnesota, but that time may be coming to an end. The team has until March 9 to decide whether or not to pay him $18 million next season, and plenty of signs are pointing towards the two parties making a clean break.

Staying with the Minnesota Vikings, it appears that quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is a long way from returning. Bridgewater is not even doing football drills yet, as the team is waiting for the knee to become “functional” again. Vikings general manager Rick Spielman is hoping to have Bridgewater back at some point, but it starting to look like the young quarterback’s future in the league is very cloudy at best.

One quarterback who is likely to be active next season in Josh McCown, who is a wanted commodity in the NFL. McCown has played his heart out for the Cleveland Browns in recent years, but the team released him last week, making him a free agent. McCown has said that “four or five team” have reached out to him, and his hope is to latch on to a team that is ready to win right now, especially if he is going there as a backup.

Another big name player that was released recently is Russell Okung, who was let go by the Denver Broncos on Thursday. Okung was the starting left tackle for the Broncos last season, who had one of the worst offensive line units in the AFC. While his tenure in Denver is over, Okung will likely latch on with someone else, as he plays a premium position in the NFL. The Broncos will save over $10 million in cap space due to the move.

The NFL preseason will kick off with the Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 3, 2017, and the game will feature two teams with some current Hall of Fame ties. The Arizona Cardinals will take on the Dallas Cowboys in the annual event, with both teams having one person entering the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year. Kurt Warner, who is a former quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals, and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will both be earning their gold jackets in 2017.
