The Vampire Diaries season 8, episode 15 synopsis: We’re Planning a June Wedding

And then there were two. The penultimate episode of The Vampire Diaries airs on Friday night and it will feature a wedding that was first mentioned all the way back in the pilot.

Caroline Forbes is about to marry Stefan Salvatore. Only the situation surrounding their wedding is very different than what  Caroline probably had in mind when she mentioned planning her wedding to Stefan way back in The Vampire Diaries pilot.

Back then, Elena, Bonnie and Caroline were just innocent high school students at a bonfire when Caroline spotted the new boy and stated, “we’re planning a June wedding.” Flash forward to season 8 and both Stefan and Caroline have been through a lot.

Now she in a vampire and he is human. Stefan just killed the Devil and that is part of the reason why he proposed to Caroline again. And the only reason why they are getting married so soon is because Stefan’s, crazy, evil, ex-girlfriend is now the Queen of Hell.

As seen in the promo for this week’s episode, the plan is to lure Katherine Pierce into the open by throwing Stefan’s happiness in her face. After all, she has been obsessed with Stefan since 1864.

"WEDDING BELLS? – A wedding is quickly planned in order for Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) to lure a dangerous enemy out into the open. This looming threat puts the fate of Mystic Falls in eminent danger and must be destroyed."

Seeing as this episode is all about getting Katherine to show herself, it is likely that Nina Dobrev will appear at some point. Even if it is only near the end of the episode.

While Dobrev is not confirmed to be in this episode, there is one confirmed big return. Matt’s mom, Kelly Donovan comes to Stefan and Caroline’s wedding.

She has not been seen since Matt asked her to leave town near the end of season 1. It will be interesting to see what brings her back to Mystic Falls now, especially as she was never a big fan of Caroline.
