Vince Carter turned back the clock in a big win for the Memphis Grizzlies Monday night, dropping 24 points on a perfect 8-for-8 shooting from the field.

Chandler who?

Just hours after the Memphis Grizzlies announced that starting small forward Chandler Parsons would be out indefinitely with a partially torn meniscus in his left knee, 40-year-old Vince Carter stepped into the team’s starting lineup…and absolutely crushed it for a team that had lost 16 of its 30 games so far in 2017.

In a Monday night game against a red-hot Milwaukee Bucks team that had won its last six games, VC was huge for the struggling Grizzlies, scoring 24 points in the starting lineup on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting from the field.

In his first start of the season in 59 appearances, Vinsanity turned back the clock to his Toronto Raptors days and knocked down all six of his three-point attempts.

The Grizzlies also got 20 points and 10 assists out of Mike Conley, plus 13 points, seven boards and seven assists out of Marc Gasol. Memphis demolished the streaking Bucks, 113-93, behind Carter’s game-high 24 points.

With Parsons likely done for the rest of the 2016-17 season, the Grizzlies are not going to be able to see what this four-man core can do for the Grit-N-Grind this year. After investing a four-year, $94 million contract in him, that’s obviously a major point of concern.

But with Carter showing he can still put up efficient scoring nights like this, perhaps the Grizzlies aren’t down and out just yet. He’s only averaging 7.7 points and 3.1 rebounds in 23.6 minutes per game on 38 percent shooting this season, but VC is also converting 36.3 percent of his attempts from long range.

This was only one game, but it was an encouraging sign for a team still reeling from the latest injury setback for Parsons. And even if it’s not a sign of things to come, it’s always fun to see one of the game’s all-time greats turn back the clock for a night at age 40.
