It’s not surprising that Twitter blew up with Team USA’s historic win over Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic championship game.

Team USA claimed the World Baseball Classic title with its 8-0 shutout win over Puerto Rico in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, triggering a massive outpouring support from the Twitterverse.

This year’s World Baseball Classic was historic in and of itself because it saw the most fans in attendance since the tournament’s inception. This year, attendance reached well north of a million fans at the games, shattering the previous record. A total of 51,565 fans were in attendance at Dodgers Stadium for the championship game.

There has been a lot of question as to whether or not the World Baseball Classic is a worthwhile endeavor, with so many MLB players either opting out of the game or being told not to participate by their teams. Enthusiasm among fans at the games, however, would suggest that this event has a lot of potential and should be examined in the future.

With the 2020 Olympics signaling a return of baseball to the Games of the Olympiad, the World Baseball Classic offers a nice look at what’s ahead for Team USA. And it must be said that if Team USA is competing this well right now, things are looking really good for 2020 if it keep up the momentum.

If Twitter is any indication, this Team USA victory has got people really excited to see what happens over the course of the 2017 MLB season. With the Cubs defending their World Series title and Team USA and WBC players sprinkled throughout the MLB, there is a lot to look forward to this year.
