Arizona and West Virginia both lost in the Sweet 16 on Thursday night, but no one told the graphics department at TBS apparently

To make it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament is a great accomplishment. With hundreds of schools competing in college basketball annually, to be among the final 16 in March Madness is an impressive feat. However, for teams like the Arizona Wildcats and West Virginia Mountaineers, it most certainly doesn’t feel that way.

Particularly Arizona, but also with Bob Huggins’ West Virginia team as well, they had the potential to go all the way to the Final Four and potentially compete for a National Championship. Instead, the Mountaineers had a horrifyingly awful final possession and didn’t even get off a final game-tying attempt in a loss to Gonzaga. Then Arizona had similar struggles with a bad final possession that could’ve gone for the win or tie, but instead resulted in a poor shot.

Now the Wildcats and Mountaineers are ousted with Gonzaga and cinderella Xavier both heading to the Elite Eight. Or at least that’s why we thought happened. But if you ask the guy doing the bracket graphics for TBS, that might not be the case.

Here’s the graphic that they aired in the post-game show on TBS for the Elite Eight matchup out of the West Region:

That is indeed incorrect. Perhaps the most hilarious part of this is the fact that the scores and red highlights in the previous games on that bracket are both correct. Yet they somehow pushed West Virginia and Arizona forward.

Let’s hope that neither team happened to be watching TBS when this happened, though. It’s one thing to lose in the tournament, and it has to be just devastating. But then to see your team advanced by someone who botched their job is just throwing salt on the wound.
