J.P. Macura almost officially hit one of the most amazing shots in NCAA Tournament history, but it didn’t count

The Xavier Musketeers and the Gonzaga Bulldogs are currently in a battle in the Elite Eight, a battle of two teams to see who will be making their first ever appearance in the Final Four. At the half, Gonzaga went into the locker room up by 10, but that lead was almost amazingly cut to seven because of J.P. Macura.

Macura, the Xavier player known the most for wearing the sleeves on both his arms and legs underneath his uniform, nearly hit one of the greatest shots in NCAA Tournament history. Well, he did actually hit the shot, but unfortunately it didn’t count.

As the halftime buzzer was about to sound, Macura heaved a near full-court shot in desperation, and it actually went in!

As the shot drained, everyone in the arena and on Twitter lost their collective minds. Less than 24 hours after Florida hit a buzzer-beater to send them to the Elite Eight, Macura almost nailed an insane buzzer-beater of his own. Unfortunately, however, things just weren’t meant to be as he couldn’t get the ball into the air in time.

Now you have to wonder whether or not this could come back to haunt Xavier near the end of the game, especially if they can get it together and stick with the Zags in the second half. For the sake of the Musketeers, hopefully that won’t be the heartbreaking case here.
