LeBron James had an added accessory tonight for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ matchup with the Washington Wizards: amber goggles. And best believe Twitter took notice.

The Cleveland Cavaliers won 112-105 over the Charlotte Hornets on Mar. 24, but LeBron James also suffered a corneal abrasion to his right eye in the second half of the game. He was poked in the eye late in the third quarter by Hornets guard Jeremy Lamb.

He still finished with 32 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists but his vision, was blurry after the game. His status for Saturday’s game against the Washington Wizards was listed as questionable.

However, James was able to make the start for the Cleveland Cavaliers, donning a pair of amber goggles. As a fan of fashion, the goggles were a good look, especially considering they matched the team’s wine and gold uniform set. Unfortunately, the goggles didn’t make it out of the first quarter before James ended up tossing them while the game was going on.

And a lot of basketball fans on Twitter took notice:

There was even an ode to former center Amar’e Stoudemire, who donned a pair of goggles after suffering an eye injury early in his career. However, LeBron James wasn’t digging the goggles so much, as they threw off his shooting touch.

Much to the surprise of no one on Twitter, the goggles didn’t last through a quarter. James flung them across the court in disgust after missing an early jump shot. He nearly hit Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal in the process as well. James found a rhythm after ditching the goggles, although the Cavaliers still trailed to end the first quarter, 40-26.

We’ll see if James will take any other safety precautions for his eye injury going forward or if the goggles are gone for good. He didn’t seem too bothered with contact on drives after ditching them.
