Xavier guard J.P. Macura got blindsided by a brutal screen from Gonzaga forward Zach Collins in the 2017 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight on Saturday.

When it comes to the Elite Eight and going deep into the NCAA Tournament, every team better bring their best effort. That means digging deep and finding another gear while going that extra mile to get stuff done. For Xavier Musketeers guard J.P. Macura he found out the hard way that Gonzaga forward Zach Collins is all about the extra miles.

As Macura ran back on defense, he got destroyed by a bone chilling screen from Collins. It was a clean and legal screen that left a statement. For Macura, it’s just the nature of the business as he turned around right into it.

It’s always important to keep your head on a swivel in these situations. Macura’s likely going to be looking next time before he ends up taking another hit in the middle. Still, it shows that even basketball has a little physicality on the biggest stage.

Both of these teams have a golden opportunity in front of them. A spot in the Final Four is on the line in the West Regional Final. Both of these programs would love the opportunity to go to Arizona and compete for a National Championship.

Gonzaga’s got the right idea if they want to get there. Hit shots and level the opponent with some major screens. The team with the physical advantage often ends up on the right side of things. The Bulldogs are bringing the pain thus far in the Elite Eight.
