With yet another report of palace intrigue among the Lakers and their ruling family, questions will continue to be raised whether this venerable organization can restore itself to past glory. In another difficult campaign with few bright spots, “Buss family feud” has been a more prevalent headline than “Lakers win.” But is this just off-the-court noise that will disappear once Brandon Ingram, D’Angelo Russell and the other young players begin to blossom? And is this upheaval within the organization actually a good thing, as team president Jeanie Buss finally completes an overdue shake-up of the front office and stabilizes power? Or is placing Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant’s former agent Rob Pelinka in charge a continuation of the myth of Lakers exceptionalism?

To help answer these questions (and to defend the honor of the Lakers) , Darius Soriano (@forumbluegold) joins the latest episode of Fastbreak Breakfast. Darius manages the ESPN TrueHoop site ForumBlueandGold.com and is the co-host of the Lakers Film Room podcast. Do the behind the scenes machinations even matter? Is optimism for the young core still high? And even if the Lakers end up losing their lottery pick, are their silver linings to this season?
