The Texas A&M 2017 football opener against UCLA has been moved to September 3.

The Texas A&M Aggies announced on Wednesday that their 2017 football opener against UCLA has been pushed back a day. The game, which will be held at the Rose Bowl, will now be played on September 3.

The idea is that it will give the game a more premier time slot on TV, and not so much be lost in the shuffle of the Saturday lineup. The game will be showcased nationally on Labor Day weekend, although it’s unclear at this point what network will carry the game. The Aggies issued a press release regarding the change.

It will be interesting to see how this meeting will go between these two teams, after last year nearly ended in a trainwreck. The Aggies jumped out to a 24-9 lead in College Station, before UCLA rallied to tie the game. The Aggies pulled off the overtime win by a 31-24 score.

UCLA begins their spring practice next week. They hope to have quarterback Josh Rosen back in action after shoulder surgery derailed his season back in November. They have their sights set on upending the Top 25, as they’re currently on the outside looking in on several early preseason polls.

With the change, both teams will now have a short week heading into their next games. Texas A&M will host Nicholls State on September 9, while UCLA will welcome Hawaii. That will definitely put a new spin on both games, but both teams being home the next week should be at least a little more comforting. As a side note for you wagering types, The Aggies opened up as a 2.5-point underdog to the Bruins.
