The Undertaker lost to Roman Reigns in the main event of WWE WrestleMania 33, but left his gloves, hat and jacket in the ring to likely signify his retirement

Fighting in his 25th WrestleMania on Sunday, April 2, The Undertaker had just one loss to his name in his illustrious career at the flagship pay-per-view of the company. However, at WWE WrestleMania 33, he was in a special fight for supremacy as he met with Roman Reigns. If only we’d known for sure just how special of a bout it was for the man affectionately known by wrestling fans as The Deadman.

Reigns and The Undertaker put on a long, brutal match against one another. There were vicious chair-shots, there were Tombstones, Last Rides and Chokeslams, and there were multiple Spears and Superman Punches. In the end, though, it was The Undertaker who took the pin, going down for the 1-2-3 after taking a hellacious beating.

The Big Dog walked out tall, but that was far from the biggest deal that was about to transpire. Undertaker was laid out in the ring as the crowd chanted “Thank you, Taker.” He then sat up as he’s done many times before.

But then he put his trench coat and his hat back on and stood there. Slowly, he began taking off his leather gloves and laying them in front of him. He then took off his coat, folded it and laid it atop the gloves. And finally, he took off the hat and placed it as a crown for the pile. He then took a deep breath and left the ring—likely signifying his retirement and that he’d just wrestled his last match:

As he walked up the ramp, he raised his fist one more time as the lights and pyro went off once again, chants of “Thank you, Taker” still raining down upon him.

He then disappeared as the lights went out. And his gong rang a few more times as he left seemingly for good. There’s nothing else to say but this: thank you, Taker. No one will ever touch what you were able to create, and we as fans will cherish it forever.
