Tom Brady’s jersey going missing after the miraculous Patriots’ Super Bowl 51 comeback became almost a bigger story in New England than the win itself.

Just when you thought the drama about Tom Brady’s stolen Super Bowl jerseys was done, one last wrinkle was added to the story that seemed to never end.

The memorabilia was finally found on March 21, which included Brady’s Super Bowl 51 jersey, and his jersey from the team’s win over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX. Brady proudly showcased his returned uniform at Fenway Park on Monday for Red Sox Opening Day, throwing the first pitch for the game.

In the end, it was an unlikely hero who helped save the Super Bowl MVP’s day. As reported by CBS Boston, a 19-year-old Patriots fan named Dylan Wagner had sold a jersey to Martin Mauricio Ortega, a fellow sports memorabilia collector and international media member.

Wagner told the station that the two exchanged photos of their collections, and Ortega’s image proudly displayed Brady’s Super Bowl XLIX jersey front and center.

Just months later, when news broke of Brady’s Super Bowl 51 jersey getting jacked in the locker room after the game, Wagner got to work and helped catch the perpetrator.

Wagner told CBS Boston that he sent the photos from Ortega and his contact information to Boston ATF Special Agent and fellow sports memorabilia collector Christopher Arone, who is also a collector, and Arone turned it over to the FBI for the investigation.

Ortega had been caught on video seemingly attempting to hide something as he left the locker room after the game, all with a press pass for the occasion, and the pictures added to the proof.

“I would love to meet Brady one day, hopefully. It would be a dream come true. I’m just really glad he gets his jerseys back,” Wagner told CBS Boston.

Here’s hoping the 19-year-old at least gets a message from the Super Bowl MVP, who was grateful to see his jerseys back in his hands.
