The Philadelphia Eagles went with a rookie quarterback in 2016, as No. 2 overall pick Carson Wentz did pretty well with the keys to the car.

While the Philadelphia Eagles failed to make the playoffs again in 2016, they are setting themselves up to be a very good team, for a very long time. The team decided to roll with Carson Wentz as their quarterback from Week 1 on, giving the No. 2 overall pick in last year’s NFL Draft the chance to learn on the fly in the position. While Wentz had some rough moments in the second half of the season, there is no doubt that he can play quarterback at the NFL level.

The problem with the Eagles last season was the lack of talent on the outside, as Jordan Matthews was asked to be the main weapon at the wide receiver position. This offseason, the Eagles brought in both Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith to play alongside Matthews, giving Wentz a ton of options in the passing game. They still need to figure out the running back position, but this team will certainly be strong on offense next season.

This is the home and road schedule for the Eagles:

Home: Dallas, New York Giants, Philadelphia, Arizona, San Francisco, Denver, Oakland, Chicago

Away: Dallas, New York Giants, Philadelphia, Seattle, Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City, Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina

Here’s the schedule for Philadelphia this season (updated upon release):

Aside from the tough NFC East schedule, as all teams in the division should be decent next season, the Eagles also face some good non-divisional opponents on the road. Philadelphia has to make the trip across the country to play the Seattle Seahawks, as well as AFC West champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. Wentz should take a step forward in 2017, giving the Eagles their best starting quarterback since Donovan McNabb.

The NFC East is going to be anybody’s to take in 2017, as the Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and Washington Redskins love to beat up on each other. The Cowboys were the class of the NFC last season, but it has not been a kind offseason for them. If Philadelphia can add a running back via the draft, and fill a few holes on defense, they should be able to challenge for the division next season.
