Milwaukee Brewers’ third baseman Travis Shaw takes Carlos Martinez deep.

While Eric Thames is the talk of Major League Baseball, on Friday night teammate and Brewers’ third baseman Travis Shaw made it a point to remind everyone he’s pretty good, too.

In the first inning of a home game against the St. Louis Cardinals, Shaw turned on a Carlos Martinez pitch, and here’s what happened:

There was never any doubt about that one.  It was Shaw’s 5th homer on the season, and while he’s not off to the inhuman start Thames is, he is still doing plenty of damage out of the cleanup spot for Milwaukee.

Travis Shaw arrived in Milwaukee from Boston in exchange for relief pitcher Tyler Thornburg, and as far as that trade goes, so far so good for the Brewers. The left-handed hitting third baseman got of to a hot start for the Red Sox in each of his first two years with the team, but was never able to tap into his full potential. Maybe he just needed a change in scenery, and so far, Miller Park looks like a perfect fit.

In Boston, Shaw earned the nickname “The Mayor of Ding Dong City” for his ability to hit, well, ding dongs. If you’re thinking to yourself, ‘Wow, that’s the greatest nickname of all time,’ you’d be correct, because it is. Well, at least I think so.

Coming into the game, the Milwaukee Brewers ranked fifth in Major League Baseball in runs scored. If Travis Shaw keeps living up to his awesome nickname, expect plenty more.
