A year after winning the NFC East, the Washington Redskins failed to make the playoffs in 2016, and the offseason has been a rough one thus far.

In 2015, the Washington Redskins shocked the NFL landscape by winning the NFC East despite having a first-year starter under center. Kirk Cousins, who had a solid career at Michigan State, replaced Robert Griffin III as the future at the quarterback position, and did not disappoint. Despite his efforts, Cousins did not receive a long-term deal, instead playing under the franchise tag last season.

After another solid season in 2016, Cousins once again failed to get a deal, and will now be paid big bucks under the franchise tag once again in 2017. If the Redskins are going to do well, they will have to have some of their other weapons from last season step up, as wide receivers Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson are both gone. They did bring in Terrell Pryor to soften the blow at the wideout position, but it remains to be seen if he can be a consistent player in his second full season as a receiver.

These are the home and away opponents for Washington:

Home: Dallas, New York Giants, Philadelphia, Arizona, San Francisco, Denver, Oakland, Minnesota

Away: Dallas, New York Giants, Philadelphia, Seattle, Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City, Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans

Here is the entire schedule, week-by-week (updated upon release):

The Redskins have a tough non-divisional road schedule, as they will have to travel to play the likes of the Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs. Their defense may be a liability again in 2017, especially up front, where they need to focus in the draft. The NFC East is going to be a tough division next season, and the Redskins may be the least-talented of the group.

Despite doing a very good job in the role, the Redskins let Scot McCloughan go, and still do not have a replacement at general manager. They did extend head coach Jay Gruden two more years, finally bringing some stability to the head coaching position. Still, this team has lost too much on offense this offseason, and without an elite defensive unit, they may struggle to get over the .500 mark in 2017.
