New York Mets star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes left Thursday’s game limping off the field against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Yoenis Cespedes was seen limping off the field during Thursday night’s game after he began to have major discomfort in his leg while he was running from first base to second. Mets Manager Terry Collins promptly subbed him out with Juan Lagares.

The severity of the injury was originally unknown, but the Mets eventually announced that Cespedes was experiencing cramping in his left hamstring.

Hamstring cramps can sure be tricky, and Cespedes will most likely get a day or two off to rest it, but it has to give the Mets a sigh of relief. New York has already experienced a slew of injuries to their position players to begin the season as guys like Lucas Duda, Travis d’Arnaud, and Wilmer Flores are currently nursing injuries. Though they do not seem to be serious, they can’t seem to afford any more at this point in the season.

Including tonight’s game, Cespedes has hit six home runs, and driven in 10 RBIs on a .263 batting average on the young season. Cespedes socked 31 home runs last season with a exceptional .280 batting average, which prompted the Mets to give him a four-year deal worth 110 million dollars after last season.

Any kind of injury to a team’s star player is certainly a let down, but since it was diagnosed as a hamstring cramp, there’s hope that it is nothing more than that. As we know though, baseball players use their legs quite a bit to add power to their swing, run bases, and field at their position.

There’s no current update on Cespedes implying that he is going to miss any time, but I’m sure the Mets will be careful with their star outfielder.
