After weeks of speculation in Seattle, it looks like the Seahawks will be holding on to star cornerback Richard Sherman after all.

When rumors first emerged of the Seattle Seahawks making star cornerback Richard Sherman available for trade, the world almost ended. Sherman is a key cog in Seattle’s “Legion of Boom” and it seemed like he would never leave the team under any circumstances.

Yet Seahawks general manager John Schneider did little to put out the fiery rumors and that only fueled the flames. It appeared as though Sherman’s days in Seattle were close to ending and a deal was imminent.

Not so fast. Schneider appeared on 710 ESPN Seattle’s “Danny, Dave and Moore” show on Thursday to do a bit of bandaging on the entire situation regarding Sherman. While he still left the door open for a possible trade, Schneider threw a bit of cold water on the fire.

Sheil Kapadia of ESPN.com shared a few quotes from Schneider’s interview in a recent article:

"“Right now, I don’t think the odds [of a trade] are very good,” Schneider said during an interview with the “Danny, Dave and Moore” show on 710 ESPN Seattle. “But if somebody comes cruising along and something happens, and we do something, it happens. We have constant communication with him. I talked to him this evening. So it’s cool. Everything’s fine. I just think that the only reason we would do it is to basically create some cap room and try to become a younger football team. But that’s just one option.”"

While Schneider was a bit more stern regarding the situation a week or so ago, his opinion appears to have changed a bit. He’s accepted the fact that a trade is unlikely given Sherman’s age, contract and their reported asking price of a first-round pick in addition to other assets.

With the NFL Draft quickly approaching, it seems like the Seahawks and Schneider have shifted their focus away from trading Sherman. It appears as though the star cornerback will remain in Seattle, which is likely the best option for both sides.
