Will the Washington Capitals eliminate the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday in Game 6 of their first round series?

The Washington Capitals entered the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs as the favorites to lift Lord Stanley at the end. However, they quickly fell behind two games to one in their first round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Being behind has given them a wake-up call, as the Caps have won two straight games to take a 3-2 series lead. They look to put an end to the Maple Leafs’ postseason on Sunday. However, the Caps will have to win on the road. And they’ll have to beat a very desperate team.

Washington is coming off a 2-1 win in overtime in Game 5. Justin Williams did what he’s done so many times by scoring a clutch game-winning goal. His overtime winner puts the Caps ahead for the first time in the series since they won Game 1. They’ll be looking to not be hosting a Game 7 in Washington DC. Goaltender Braden Holtby seems to have found his swagger, as he was incredible in Game 5.

However, the Maple Leafs aren’t quite ready to have their season be over. They’ve given the Caps a great challenge, as each game in the series has been determined by a lone goal. Auston Matthews leads them with three goals so far in the series. They’ll need him, along with his stellar supporting cast, to carry them into Game 7.

After Game 5, Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock told all of the staff at the Caps arena, “See you in a couple of days”. This clearly means one thing and everyone knows what it is. Babcock’s going to go to a Washington Wizards game on Monday. That’s because his season will be over. As admirably as the Maple Leafs have challenged the best team in the league, the Caps will end the series on Sunday.

Capitals beat Maple Leafs 4-3.
